TF00DL45 Modern Construction Management (6 cr)
Prerequisites No particular demands.
Objectives The student knows what project management means in practice and is able to act as a quantity surveyor both in new construction and renovation projects. He is able to make cost estimations in various stages of a building project and knows what the difference is between leadership and management in building processes. He/she knows what property management and facilities management mean. The student knows the most common environmental certification systems and is able to apply them in different processes.

The student knows the English terminology in construction management and is able to communicate and interact in a constructive and proper way in related situations. Level: B2 (CEFR)

5. Cost estimation
6. LCC-estimation
7. Environmental certification systems
8. Managing people – the difference between leadership and management

10. Professional English (2 crs)


The English language and communication part includes exercises improving interactive and communicative skills needed in construction and people management. The topics included are e.g. tendering process, communicating with business partners, numbers and figures, safety on site, guiding on site and environmental impacts of the construction industry. The scope of the English language studies is 2 credit points.
