Description

OQ00CT73 Mammography and Ultrasound Examinations and Interventions (5 cr)
Prerequisites No prerequisites.
Objectives Part 1, Mammography Examinations and Interventions
The student can
- explain the principles of implementation and evaluation of screening tests.
- explain, how the breast cancer screening is planned, implemented and evaluated by a mammography examination in Finland.
- also explain the differences in screening practice between countries.
- explain the facts that interrelate with planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical and screening mammography.
- explain what are the further mammography examinations and interventions, how they are carried out when examining breast symptoms and what is the role of a radiographer in those situations.
- explain the content of patient centered client or patient guidance and education in mammography, in further examinations and in interventions. -can tell how the sustainable development is implemented in mammography, further examinations and interventions.
Part 2, Mammography Equipment, Quality Assurance and Radiation Protection
Student
-explains the function of mammography equipment based on the radiation physics.
- applies his / her knowledge in quality assurance, image manipulation and is able to explain patient’s dose optimisation procedures in connection with image quality.
- knows the dose quantities in mammography.
Part 3, Ultrasound Examinations, Ultrasound Equipment and Quality Assurance
The student can
- explain, what are the most common ultrasound examinations and interventions in radiologic imaging and understands the radiographers’s responsibility as a team member in those examinations and interventions.
- explain the content of client or patient centered guidance and education in most common ultrasound examinations.
- apply infection control in ultrasound interventions.
- explain the meaning of laboratory tests and medication in planning and implementing of ultrasound specimens and
can also explain how radiographer is responsible for specimens.
- tell, how the sustainable development is implemented in ultrasound examinations and interventions.
- explain the physical fundaments of ultrasound imaging.
