ON00DU97 Mental Health and Substance Abuse Nursing and Family Nursing I (8 cr)
Prerequisites Level I studies is ongoing or passed without deficits
Objectives First Part: Mental Health Nursing and Work with Substance Abuse

The student:

• knows the changes caused by mental illness and substance abuse to the individual and close to them;
• can evaluate psychic space and functional ability as a patient and nurse's dialogue;
• is able to face and maintain therapeutic communication with mental health, substance abuse, and a client in crisis.

Second Part: Family-centered Nursing of Children and Adolescents

• is able to support and promote the welfare of the children and family;
• knows the meaning of illness, special needs, and the meaning of hospitalisation to children, adolescents, and their families;
• can plan, take care and evaluate the evidence-based practice in nursing; and
• can perform drug calculations in pediatric care accurately and carry out safe medical treatment for children and adolescents.

Third Part: Nursing Care Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health

• knows the normal course and follow-up of pregnancy, childbirth, and puerperium period, as well as the special features of care for newborns;
• can identify typical disorders related to pregnancy and recovery after childbirth as well as typical gynaecological diseases; and
• can identify and bring up topics and themes related to sexual and reproductive health during different ages and situations of life.

Fourth Part: Variety of Working Methods in Mental Health, Substance Abuse Nursing and Family Nursing including Interprofessional Collaboration

• knows how to use appropriate patient- and family-centered working methods including interprofessional collaboration.
Content 1) Mental Health Nursing and Work with Substance Abuse (2 ECTS)
2) Family-centered nursing of children and adolescents (2 ECTS)
3) Nursing care promoting sexual and reproductive health (2 ECTS)
4) Variety of Working Methods in Mental Health, Substance Abuse Nursing and Family Nursing including interprofessional collaboration (2 ECTS)
