7W00DX78 Therapeutic Groups and Group Leader in Occupational Therapy, practice (6 cr)
Prerequisites Competence in mainly first-year studies must be demonstrated. The theory part must be completed before you can lead an occupational therapy group.
Objectives The student has gained knowledge about groups, their structures and stages of development and the significance of roles within groups. The student has an understanding how theoretical knowledge and practical skills for leadership of group are both as important when leading a therapeutic group. The student has gained knowledge how to plan therapeutic group using models and frames of references for therapeutic groups. The student will gain experience in participating peer group .
The student is able to design and implement the occupational therapy group with a working life. The student is able to draw up group goals and select, analyze, and apply the therapeutic occupation. The student is able to use occupational therapy group theories and models. The student is able to observe and assess the group process-related phenomena. The student is able to change their own work group requirements, using different roles and strategies of a group leader. The student recognizes and is able to assess their own strengths and facilitation skills development through. The student is able to do a report describing the process of group to the working life partner.
Content Theoretical basis of occupational therapy group interventions. Groups: structures, stages of development and roles of group members. Therapeutic occupation in occupational therapy groups. The roles and strategies of leadership and their impact on the group. Planning of an occupational therapy group and leading a group session. Group work models in occupational therapy.
Occupational therapy group design and implementation. The therapeutic occupation. Occupational therapy group work models and theories. Group leader and strategies. Group efficiency. Documentation.

The student identifies various group phenomena and describes their meaning and effect on the group process.
The student recognizes the theories of group work in occupational therapy and explains some perspectives by applying them.

The student knows and understands the group work theories of the course.
The student applies the theories of occupational therapy group work to group interventions of different clients.
The student understands the importance and influence of the activity and the group leader on the group process.

excellent (5)
The student understands and analyzes the meanings of different approaches to group processes.
The student evaluates and knows how to apply the chosen theory of occupational therapy and understands the importance of activity analysis in participating in group members' activities.
The student produces his reflections and concepts to illustrate his activities and participation as a member of the group.
