OT00DY54 | Public Health Nursing for Elderly People - Practical Training (6 cr) |
Prerequisites | The student has completed 140 credits of studies in the nursing degree programme and the theory of work as a public health nurse for the elderly. National examination of the core competencies of nursing. |
Objectives | The student becomes familiar with the care and service system for the elderly client. The student evaluates the health and functional capacity of the elderly client and the factors that affect them. The student will plan and assess the care and service needs of the elderly in a client-oriented and multidisciplinary way. The student guides and supports the elderly client and his/her relatives in the management of health and illness. The student applies the skills of a nurse and health care professional in a multidisciplinary team and in collaboration within a network of care and services. The student develops competence in a wide range of nursing and healthcare methods. The student Identifies challenges for the development of nursing care for older people. The student Identifies own competences and areas for development. The student works in accordance with the ethical guidelines of the health care profession |

Accomplishment methods | The practical training takes place in a public, private or third sector environment. pass/fail PASS/FAIL: The student works professionally in environments and settings of elderly people nursing and healthcare work. The student works in accordance with the laws and regulations governing the elderly health care. The student can identify, as appropriate, the actors in a diverse community. The student knows the role/role of the public health nurse in a multidisciplinary work. The student can independently plan, implement and evaluate health checks and other appointments for the target group in a way that promotes health and well-being. The student can select effective health and well-being promotion methods according to the needs of the client The student can apply the ethical guidelines of the public health nurse The assessment is based also on the general criteria for the accreditation of traineeships: https://oiva.oamk.fi/tietoa_opiskelusta/harjoittelu/harjoit... The student's practical training is approved when the teacher has approved the hours and objectives of the training. At the end of the placement, the student evaluates his/her own competence by means of a written self-assessment and requests written feedback from the placement supervisor. The written assignment during the placement will be discussed in the course information session. |
