OT00DY14 Practical Training in Public Health Nursing with the Working-Age Population (6 cr)
Prerequisites the Theoretical Course of Occupational Health Nursing with Working Age Population.
Proficiency Test of General Nursing Competencies.
Objectives The student understands the role of a public health nurse in occupational health care/ various outpatient health care units that care for clients of working age.
The student applies the laws and regulations that govern occupational health care.
The student assess the health of working-age customers, workplaces and work communities, as well as work/functional capacity and the factors affecting them.
The student works to promote the client's work ability, health and well-being.
The student works as a member of a multiprofessional and multidisciplinary team.
The student familiarises myself with the occupational health unit's written quality system, development work and coordination of occupational health care services/ familiarises his/herselves with the occupational health care services and operations of the internship.
The student acts in accordance with the ethical guidelines for public health nursing.
Content Public health nursing of working-age people in different operating environments.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods The student trains in occupational health care/in a different health care outpatient care unit that treats clients of working age.
The student demonstrates my competence by doing the required tasks.
The student evaluates and report on my own skills and work.
Execution methods The student develops my competence in working-age public health nursing during practical training.
The student works independently according to the possibilities of the training unit.
The student develops his/her skills based on the feedback I receive.

The student understands the role of public health nurses in occupational health care and outpatient care appointments and act accordingly.
The student is familiar with the legislation that guides occupational health care and I apply it in my operations.
The student identifies health exposures, hazards and stress factors related to occupational safety, health and work ability of working-age people, as well as existing resource factors.
Under supervision,The student plans and implements occupational health care functions that support the employee, the work community and the working environment (e.g. health examinations, workplace surveys, medical care, support for health and work ability, counselling and guidance).
The student participates in multiprofessional and multidisciplinary cooperation and its coordination.
The student assesses the occupational health unit's quality system in writing/assess in writing the occupational health care services of the internship.
The student identifies ethical issues in public health nursing and choose ethically sustainable solutions in my operations.
