AT00EN84 Basics of Show Dance and Pedagogy (20 cr)
Prerequisites If necessary, the starting level suitable for the course objectives is demonstrated with a starting level test, the implementation of which is decided by the head of degree programme after the HOT procedure has been initiated. If necessary, the student and the study counsellor go through the other recommended studies in personal study plan discussions.

GENRE-SPECIFIC DANCE TECHNIQUE AND STYLE
Basic motor skills: mastery and embodiment of movement combinations and coordination.
Dance technique: breathing, core support and body support, alignment, grounding, weight transfer and basic spatial directions of movement.
Dance sense of style and expression: the expression of the dynamics of movement and the relationship of dance to music. Basic movement material in the specialization dance genre.
The connection between dance and music in show dance. Professional terminology. Information retrieval. Self- and peer-review.
PEDAGOGICAL COMPETENCE
Basic concepts and elements of the dance genre, core phenomena, learning contents and structure of the dance lesson.
The use of music related to the dance genre.
CULTURAL KNOWLEDGE
The operating culture of the dance genre.
Dance genres and special features related to the dance genre.
The culture of teaching the dance genre.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods Participation in contact teaching classes offered by Oamk's dance teacher education degree programme, as well as studying and demonstrating competence as described in the implementation plan.
Execution methods The primary method of implementation is described in the implementation plan.
Materials The study material can be found in Moodle during the implementation of the course.

I analyze the peculiarities of the culture of the dance genre, present new perspectives. I apply a broad knowledge of the dance field and connect the genre under discussion to the history and broader framework of show dance.

FAIL
The student does not demonstrate competence described in the assessment criteria in sections 1–2 of the assessment criteria for one or more assessment items, or competence cannot be assessed. In this case, the grade is recorded as zero in the study register. The student has two semesters to increase the failed grade from the date of recording the course attainment.
