7T00DF05 Basics of Nursing Skills and Medication Skills (5 cr)

Objectives Nursing Skills
The student demonstrates ability to provide a safe nursing environment to the client taking into consideration ethical and legal aspects in nursing practice. The student is able to assess and advise the client to manage daily activities. The student follows the procedures under aseptic conditions and takes proper ergonomics into account. The student has gained skills to examine and observe the client and document the client`s condition daily.

Medication Skills
The student fully knows his/her authority over and responsibility for the handling of medicines and the clients medication. The student can administer the medication to the client at his/her home and/or in home-like conditions as well as in untypical environments. The student masters to perform dosage calculations necessary for safe medication.
Content Nursing Skills
Client assistance: daily hygiene; nutrition; skin care; dental hygiene. Observation of blood pressure, pulse, breathing, saturation, temperature and consciousness. Documentation and reporting of a client's condition. Aseptics. Ergonomy.

Medication Skills
Medication orders given by the National Agency for Medicines. Criteria for compensation of medication according to the Sickness Insurance Act. Ordering of prescription drugs and prescriptions. Interactions between medicines and the human body. Examples of groups of medicines. Responsibility for the implementation of medication. Medicines. Administration of medicines to a client ( p.o., p.r., s.c., given by eye, ear, nose, skin and inhalation). Medication follow-up at home and in home-like conditions. Medicine calculation.
