Description

5W00BB55 Electrical Engineering (10 cr)
Prerequisites Previous studies in electrical engineering.
Objectives After the course the student is able to calculate the properties of symmetric three-phase circuits. The student learns the principles of electric power production and distribution. The student can define the characteristics and uses of power transformers. In addition, the student can recognize conventional electric motors and categorize them according to their drive properties. The student is able to compare different types of electric drive systems. The student can also introduce the most important components and devices in the field of power electronics. Furthermore, the student can describe the principal structures of low voltage networks in buildings. The student can list the factors having influence on the quality of electricity and select suitable protection methods against disturbances.

The student is able to describe the meaning of different types of electrical drawings and read and plan simple wiring and schematic diagrams of main and control circuits. In addition, the student is able to use a CAD-based program to produce electrical schematics and diagrams, and select the basic components for an electric drive system of a single automation device.
Content Three-phase systems. Power transformers and electric power production and distribution. Electric motors and drives. Basics of power electronics. Low voltage networks and earthings in buildings. Disturbances in supply voltage and current. Ways to a trouble-free mains voltage supply. Laboratory exercises.
Documents of electrical planning. Reading and drawing of electrical diagrams and general schemes. Selection of electric motor. Basic components of electric drives in automation.
