OS00EI05 Systematic Assessment of EMS patient's Care Needs (5 cr)
Prerequisites You can participate in the course once you have passed the majority of your compulsory vocational studies. However, you must have completed at least 120 credits of nursing studies.
Objectives 1) Student masters key concepts, ethical principles, legislation and describes the structure of the emergency care service system.
2) Student systematically examines the patient, interprets vital signs and acts in accordance with the principles of paramedic teamwork.
3)Student uses key emergency medical examination, transfer, treatment and communication tools in a patient and workplace safe manner.
4) Students draws conclusions about the health status of the emergency care client, any changes in that status and assess the need for treatment.
5) Student uses nursing knowledge and evidence-based knowledge base in decision making.

- Fundamentals of emergency care (2 CR)
- Application of emergency care skills (3 CR)

- Emergency care environment and cooperation with authorities
- Paramedic competence requirements in basic and advanced level emergency care
- Emergency care concepts, legislation and service system
- Ethics in emergency care
- Examination, transfer, treatment and communication tools in emergency care
- Basics of safe working partnerships and professional interaction in emergency care
- Systematic examination of the patient and the five-step patient encounter model
- Identification of the emergency patient and first aid interventions
- Emergency care as part of emergency services
- Assessing the client's care needs, referring the client to appropriate services and organising follow-up care in a multidisciplinary manner
- Planning client-centred self-care and supporting adherence to care
