TF00BO18 Water Resources Management (5 cr)
Prerequisites Basics of Infra Engineering
Objectives The student is able to classify the different forms of use of Finlands water resources and the principles of their compatibilization. The student is able to plan measuring systems for hydrology and hydraulics, and knows how to obtain the initial data for hydraulics needed in water engineering projects. The student is able to calculate simple control calculations and is able to design basic and areal drainage structures.
The student is able to analyse reasons causing needs for restoring waterways,is able to plan the surveys needed in restoration projects, knows the phases in selecting the restoring method and knows how to plan the technical implementation of the restoration methods. The students is able to point out the load sources and is able to plan the methods for decreasing the load.
Content Water resources and their utilization. Planning process of water resources. Hydrology measurements (Flow, water level, precipitation, evaporation, snow cover, groundwater inventories) and the nature of runoff, estimation of discharges. Decreasing the external load. The effect of water engineering projects on the quality of water, and decresing the effects. Reasons causing lake restorations, restoration methods according to the goal groups, the choice of method and suitability for the target, technical implementation and measurement grounds.
