TF00BO51 Renovation Building Design 2 (10 cr)
Prerequisites Renovation 2
Objectives Building design:
To have ability to work in typical renovation project’s renovation and building design. To know extensive building project’s special features of building design in renovation. To know the effects that reparations have on buildings function and architecture. To be able to evaluate constructional and architecture historical importance of buildings and to know conservation and other special procedures. To know the basics of buildings feasibility evaluation. Accessibility in renovation project planning. To be able to apply feasibility evaluation and changes at a project level. To be able to apply solutions that improve energy efficiency in renovation building planning. To know the roles and responsibilities of principal designer, in renovation projects. To know how to produce materials needed for maintenance manual.

BIM:

Renovation projects:
To know the basics of renovation projects on project level and compared to new building. To have knowledge about programming and project planning in different types of renovation projects of various buildings. To know the definition of a renovation projects starting point. To be able to set a goal and outline. To know how analysis of architectural history, inspection of building’s condition and assessment of condition are formed and used as a part of buildings feasibility evaluation. To be able to take advantage of formulated documents. To know the economic factors in a building project’s life cycle. To know the basics in investment calculation. To know the principal designer offices roles in a technical orientated renovation building. To be able to produce design documents of interior refurbishments.
Content Building design 4 ects:
Building stock in the 20th century: project- and modification planning in renovation building, solutions in construction planning on a functional, economical and architectural level. Importance of building and architecture history and their conservation. Residential buildings repair work, modification planning and additional building’s construction planning, plumbing renovation, elevators and extra floors. Fire and other regulations. Energy efficiency in renovation construction planning. Project planning and costs in renovation. BIM in renovation. The role of principal designer in renovation. Building design of an extensive renovation: apartment house, school, day care center.

BIM 2 ects:
The student is able to utilize the building information model (BIM) in the planning phase of a renovation project. The student is able to create a building component-level data model for a public building renovation project. Understands the role of a BIM coordinator in a construction project. BIM in in maintenance.

Renovation projects 2 ects:
Renovation projects and costs of refurbishment, project design. Buildings surveys and building condition evaluation in project planning. Renovation project as an action, its management and supervision. Executions different contracts, especially in multistory apartment house reparations. Renovation projects contract- and design document, including repetitive interior refurbishment. To know the role of principal designer in renovation building. Maintenance of buildings. Project plan of a repair project.
