OQ00CT63 Nuclear medicine and PET-CT equipment and examinations (3 cr)
Prerequisites No prerequiaties
Objectives The student can explain the operating principles of imaging devices used in nuclear medicine and PET-CT as well the most common nuclear medicine and PET-CT examinations in a patient-oriented way. The student can describe the safe procedures with nuclear medicine and PET-TT examinations and treatments. The student can calculate amount and activity of radioactive pharmaceuticals. The student follows the radiation safety rules and regulations when using radiopharmaceuticals in patient examinations and treatments as a part of safety culture.The student is able to communicate about the quality and amount of the radiation in daily nuclear medicine and PET-CT clinical practice and interpret risks of radiation.
Content Part I Radioactivity. Measuring and imaging devices. Nuclear medicine and PET-CT examinations and patient care. Radioactive pharmaceuticals and preparation of them.
Part II Radiation protection of the patient , staff and other people in Nuclear Medicine examinations and treatments as well in PET-CT.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods Written exam and practice of radioactive pharmaceutical.
