OS00DX16 Basics of Nursing (3 cr)

Objectives - I understand the importance of the care relationship as part of holistic care
- I understand the importance of client and patient safety as part of nursing care
- I can identify the basic needs of the patient/client and know evidence-based methods for meeting basic needs
- I understand the nursing decision-making process and related documentation
Content - Key concepts in nursing and the nursing relationship.
- Principles of nursing and evidence-based good care: including infection control, basic ergonomics and rehabilitative nursing.
- Ethical and legal responsibilities in nursing (confidentiality, data protection) as part of patient safety.
- Structured record keeping in line with the decision-making process.
- Basic patient needs and vital signs, related nursing activities and methods of monitoring and observation (ABCDE basics) and communication (including ISBAR basics, NEWS scoring).
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods I will demonstrate my competence by means of learning tasks and tests (online course certificates, computer tests, successful completion of a nursing report and a course exam), which will help me to assess and demonstrate my own competence.

- I know the principles of structured recording and can prepare a nursing report according to the steps of the nursing decision-making process
