MM00EI86 Information Technology and Audio Workstations (5 cr)
Prerequisites Music as a hobby, elementary knowledge of music theory.
Objectives I understand the development history and characteristics of various computer types, accessories and operating systems, as well as their suitability for music technology uses.
I understand how the MIDI standard is useful in creating and editing music.
I understand the importance of various computer software in professions of music technology.
I understand the audio workstation as a combination of hardware components and accessories.
I evaluate the differences of digital audio workstation software and their suitability for various uses.
I can use several digital audio workstation software appropriately.
I can use plugin programs of the audio workstation software.
Content The course introduces students to digital data processing from the perspective of music technology. The course examines the development history of computer programs for music. The content emphasizes the importance of the MIDI standard. The course introduces the hardware components and accessories of an audio workstation. The course covers common digital audio workstation software and their plugin programs.
