Objectives | After completing the course, I'm able to arrange different segments of a song both linearly and vertically for blowing instruments and small ensembles, I have adopted the fundamental formal structures of jazz compositions of different styles, and I understand the importance of jazz rhythm and harmony as the building blocks of compositions. |
Content | The course introduces you to the musical language and arranging techniques of jazz music by studying the styles and techniques of jazz composers from different eras (Shorter, Brookmeyer, etc.). During the course, students does 2-5 part-line-writing exercises for blowing instruments and small ensembles are performed in different styles, as well as small compositions. |
