MM00EC22 Historical Organs (3 cr)
Prerequisites MM00EC19 Organ Theory
Objectives After studying the course, I understand the details of artistically significant historical organ types, their sound and the principles, possibilities and limitations of the music written for them. I know how to choose virtual organ samples and I can detect the stylistic examples of the details of our current organs. I also understand the importance of different structures and dispositions for the overall sound and character of the organ. I know the music that was written for these organ types and I know how to look for more of it myself. I also know other old keyboard instruments.

Schnitger organ from baroque northern Germany
Silbermann organ from baroque central Germany
Walcker organ from romantic Germany
Cavaille-Coll from romantic France

Also:
Antegnati organ from early Italy
Clicquot organ from baroque France
Ladegast organ from early romantic Germany
Sauer organ from late romantic Germany

We will familiarize ourselves with the above-mentioned types of organs using virtual organ technology, literature, sound and video production, and possibly visit some of the instruments. Getting to know other keyboard instruments as well:
-Clavichord
-Harpsichord
-Fortepiano
-Pedalharmonium
