Description


OF00DW00 Therapeutic Exercises (9 cr)
Prerequisites Anatomy, physiology and physiotherapeutic assessment and clinical reasoning competencies defined in curricula.
Objectives The student can design and implement personalized, safe and evidence based therapeutic exercises and training programmes and explain their basics using the knowledge base of different sciences. When planning therapeutic exercise the student takes tissue healing process into account. He/she can analyze the feelings of his/her own body. The student knows therapeutic equipments and can use them in therapeutic exercise.
Content 1. Basics of Therapeutic exercises, 5 cr
Basics and principles of therapeutic exercises in Physiotherapy. Health promoting exercise.

2. Workshop for Therapeutic Exercises, 4 cr
Equipments in therapeutic exercises. Methods exercising power, flexibility, balance and coordination in physiotherapy, exercising endurance, relaxation techniques, exercising in water. Safety while working at pool area. Psychophysical physiotherapy interventions.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods 1. Studying the theoretical basics of therapeutic exercise. Assignments and exam.

2. Active participation for workshops. Preparing for the lessons with given tasks. Examination.
Execution methods 1. Online and contact studies.

Evaluation Criteria satisfactory (1-2)
The student is able to choose exercises for different therapeutic situations, but they are not fully in line with the goals. The student knows the process of tissue healing, but its application to the exercises is not realized. The student is able to take into account the most common areas of practical training.

good (3-4)
The student is able to plan and implement a physiotherapeutic exercise program safely. As a rule, the student is able to take into account the tissue healing process and take into account the most common areas to be practiced. The student understands the importance of progression, but there are shortcomings in the implementation. Know how to look for sources to support their choices.

excellent (5)
The student is able to plan and implement a physiotherapeutic exercise program based on goals that are reasonable and achievable in relation to the symptoms. The student is able to take into account the tissue healing process and all the areas to be practiced when planning the exercises. The student understands the importance of progression and is able to plan exercises progressively and is able to justify their choice with sources.
