Description


OF00DV94 Practical Training in Geriatric and Neurological Physiotherapy (9 cr)
Prerequisites Theoretical knowledge of physiotherapy for aging and neurological rehabilitators. Training is not recommended to be the first long training period.
Objectives The student assess and promotes the rehabilitator's functional capacity taking into account the rehabilitator's strengths, special characteristics and the context in a customer-oriented manner. He/she guides and advises the client, his/her relatives and the staff in supporting the client's movement and functional capacity. The student acts as a representative of his/her field in a multi-professional work community and communicates orally and in writing in an appropriate manner. He/she treats rehabilitators equally and respectfully. The student recognizes His/her own professional competence and development needs.
Content Assessment of functional capacity of elderly and neurological rehabilitation patients. Physiotherapy planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation. Work orientation promoting client's rehabilitation. Multiprofessional working in different stages of the rehabilitation process and in rehabilitation environments. Safety and ethics in physiotherapy work.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods Goal-oriented planning of the training period and reflection of learning, active working during the training period, doing the task included in the training and reporting the completed hours.
Execution methods Takes place in semesters 4 and 5 in parallel with Physiotherapy practice in a hospital.
The training period must be successfully completed before the next semester's training period starts

Evaluation Criteria

Accepted when the student has:
-sent his/her introduction and preliminary goals to the placement in time as guided
-made and followed his/her preset schedule and informed the supervisor and teacher if chances
-acted ethically and taken care of data safety
-shown responsibility, professional curiosity and reflected his/her learning in different ways
-been self-directive in asking and utilizing feedback got from the supervisors
-at the end of the period submitted the schedule, learning assignment and self reflection into Moodle
-taken part on info and reflection sessions at the campus

Practical training criteria set by Finnish Physiotherapy Educator in co-operation with "Harkka" -project are applied also. Those are published in Physiotherapy Moodle.

Further Information If necessary, the student and tutor-teacher go through other recommended studies in HOPS discussions.

Credit transfer: On the basis of practical nurse education and subsequent work experience of at least one year, corresponding to the target group, a maximum of 1 credits can be credited.
