TY00DA40	Orientation to Engineering Studies and Communication (5 cr)
Prerequisites	No prerequisites
Objectives	Orientation to Engineering Communication 2 ECTs Student understands the meaning of communication in his/her own field and is able to analyse his/her own communication skills. Student is able to prepare a presentation considering the situation and the target group. Student is able to act and communicate in a group and use social media in communication of work community. Orientation to Engineering Studies 3 ECTs Student is able to utilize digital tools, platforms and learning methods used in Oulu University of Applied Sciences. He/she is familiar with support services offered by OUAS. Student is able to act safely in different learning environments and understands the importance of work safety in his/her professional field. Student familiarizes himself/herself with job search.
Content	Orientation to Engineering Communication 2 ECTs Analysis of communication skills. Presentation skills and rehearsals. Preparation and structure of presentation. Work community skills. Social media in professional field. Orientation to Engineering Studies 3 ECTs Teaching methods, learning environments and platforms. Support services and digital tools in OUAS. Commonly used office tools. Work safety. Job search and job application documents.

Execution methods	Course is implemented in two parts: Orientation to Engineering Communication (2 ECTs) and Orientation to Engineering Studies (3 ECTs) Orientation to Engineering Communication can be integrated with subject matter studies. Orientation to Engineering Studies consists of intensive phase, tutoring, independent trainings and visits. Attendance at the intensive phase is compulsory. Description can be defined more closely in implementation plans.
