OE00DY16 Basics of Nursing (4 cr)

Objectives Objective 1:
I understand the importance of the caring and collaborative relationship in nursing

Objective 2:
I understand the importance of client and patient safety as part of nursing and can act in accordance with their principles

Objective 3:
I can identify and act on the basic needs of the patient/client based on evidence

Objective 4:
I understand the nursing decision-making process and documentation
Content - Key concepts in nursing and the nursing and collaborative relationship.
- Principles of nursing and evidence-based good care: including basic patient care, infection control, basic ergonomics, rehabilitative nursing and care of the dying patient.
- Principles of structured record keeping in line with the decision-making process.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods - Independent e-learning and completion of assignments before lessons
- Active participation in theory and manditory class exercises
- Passing the exam
Execution methods I will familiarise myself with the content areas of the course through the Moodle platform material, lectures and/or recordings. Prepare for the tutorials by completing the online assignments and pre-assignments according to the instructions given.
I will demonstrate my competence in the exam and in the practical sessions.

- I know the principles of good nursing care and recognize factors that affect patient safety, such as the key principles of aseptics and ergonomics

- I know the principles of nursing care of the dying patient
- I know the principles of structured record keeping in accordance with the nursing decision-making process.

good (3-4)
- I understand the importance of the care relationship as part of holistic care and can name the elements of a good care relationship
- I can describe the principles of good care and justify the factors that influence patient safety, such as the key principles of aseptics and ergonomics, and can take them into account in care situations
- Identify patient care needs and related factors. I use different methods of data collection and can assist the patient in daily activities
- I know the principles of nursing care of the dying patient and can act accordingly
- I know the principles of structured record keeping in accordance with the nursing decision-making process and can use this in nursing care

excellent (5)
- I understand the importance of the nursing relationship as part of holistic nursing and I can act in interaction situations in accordance with the elements of a good nursing relationship.
- I act in accordance with the principles of good care, justify factors affecting patient safety and am able to take them into account in different care situations
- Act on the basis of the patient's care needs, taking into account the factors involved. I make use of different methods of information gathering and can assist the patient in daily activities on an individual basis
-I know the principles of structured recording and can prepare a nursing report in a patient-centred way according to the steps of the nursing decision-making process.
Assessment Frameworks Not applicable
Further Information - If the student has completed equivalent studies at another university of applied sciences, the course can be approved on the basis of a HOT application and supporting documents.
- If the student has a degree in Paramedic/Basic Paramedic, part of the class exercises can be approved as indicated in the course info.

However, the course assignments and exam are mandatory regardless of any approval.
