OE00DX44 Basic Level Prehospital Emergency Care (5 cr)
Prerequisites Pre-requisites: Completed courses (or equivalent competence):
- Clinical Practicum in Basics of Prehospital Emergency Care
- Resuscitation and Management of Critical Situations (incl. this courses prerequisities)
- Microbiology, Pathology and Pathophysiology
- Nursing of Chronic Diseases
- Surgical Nursing
Objectives 1) The student can operate in basic level emergency care in nurse 2's role.
2) The student identifies his/her competence and development targets.
Content 1) Systematic patient examination.
2) Basic level emergency care's medication and treatment protocols.
3) Patient-safe basic level emergency care.
4) Basics of safe emergency ambulance handling and driving.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.

Further Information Guidelines for the recognition of prior learning (AHOT)

You can demonstrate your knowledge of the content of the course by means of a theory test and an operational skills test if you have 1) at least a secondary vocational qualification in health (emergency care) or a diploma in rescue work, including studies in emergency care 2) at least 1 year of professional experience in out-of-hospital emergency care (basic level ambulance), which must have been gained within the last 3 years. The student agrees on the demonstration of competences with the course supervisor in the semester preceding the course (no HOT application to Peppi is required).

The student agrees on the demonstration of competence with the teacher responsible for the course in the semester preceding the course. No application for admission is made via HOT application in Peppi. AHOT performance will be assessed on a pass/fail scale.

A request for approval of previous studies is submitted to Peppi if the student has completed similar studies at a higher education institution.

If you wish to audit all first and second year paramedic studies, you must have at least one year of work experience in basic level paramedic (ambulance) within the last three years in addition to one of the above qualifications. This is done by completing an assessment of basic level paramedic skills, including a written portfolio of skills, a theory test and practical demonstrations in simulated paramedic situations.

The assessment must always be agreed in advance with the paramedic teacher.
