OE00DX42 Resuscitation and Management of Critical Situations (7 cr)
Prerequisites Basics of Emergency Care
Basics of Nursing
Basics of Medication Administration
Anatomy and Physiology
Objectives 1) The student recognises the patient in cardiac arrest and the premonitory signs and symptoms that often occur before cardiac arrest.
2) The student can operate in different roles and as a leader in basic and advanced life support teams. (N1, N2, N3 & N4)
3) The student can assess patient’s vital signs by using information collected from examinations and procedures.
4) The student complies occupational and patient safety while working and knows main principles of CRM.
5) The student searches for information from reliable databases and uses it in practice in emergency care.
6) The student can observe what kind of feelings and reactions may appear on themselves, the team, patient or those close to patient during and after resuscitation or other critical situations.
7) The student knows the basics of pathophysiology in basic level emergency care cardiology, neurology, respiratory diseases and cardiac arrest.
8) The student can describe the main categories of trauma patients in emergency care and trauma energies and mechanisms related to them.
9) The student identifies his/ her competences and areas for development.
Content 1) Basics of emergency medicine.
2) Pathophysiology and the most common medical causes of cardiac arrest.
3) Premonitory signs and symptoms before cardiac arrest (NEWS) and right protocols when they occur.
4) Procedures, advanced life support protocol, leadership and teamwork in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
5) Facing critical situations, dealing with the emotions related to them and learning to provide emotional support to patient’s close ones.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods 1) Basics of emergency medicine and pathophysiology of resuscitation 3 CR
