OE00DX51 Managing Challenging Situations in Emergency Care (5 cr)
Prerequisites 1) Challenging interaction situations and occupational safety in emergency and acute care
- At least 125 credits completed
- All courses in basic level prehospital emergency care studies and proficiency examination in basic level prehospital emergency care (includes pre-requisites for the courses)

2) Management of obstetric and gynaecological emergencies in out-of-hospital emergency care
- At least 140 credits completed
- All courses in basic level prehospital emergency care studies and proficiency examination in basic level prehospital emergency care (includes pre-requisites for the courses)
- Advanced Level Prehospital Emergency Care and Emergency Medicine I (includes pre-requisites for the course)
- Nursing care of children, women and families 4 credits (or equivalent)
Objectives 1) The student is able to act and communicate professionally in difficult emergency situations and with challenging patients.
2) The student can detect and identify threats to occupational safety in emergency care and knows how to act in threatening situations.
3) The student knows the paramedic's tasks in emergency care of out of hospital obstetric and gynecological emergencies. The student can apply technical and non-technical skills in the emergency care of obstetric and gynecological emergencies.

Execution methods 1) Challenging interaction situations and occupational safety in emergency and acute care
- Through written materials and exercises, the student will learn about the different types of challenging interactions encountered in emergency care and how to deal with them.
- The student designs and implements a simulation scenario related to challenging interactions with his/her fellow students.
- The student learns how to detect and identify safety threats in emergency situations and how to deal with different types of threats through videos, written materials and exercises.
2) Management of obstetric and gynaecological emergencies in out-of-hospital emergency care
- The student will learn about the management of unplanned out-of-hospital deliveries and other obstetric and gynaecological emergencies encountered in emergency care, under the guidance of teachers and through a pre-assignment.
- The student will practice the management of unplanned out-of-hospital deliveries and other obstetric and gynaecological emergencies in simulations.
