OE00DX45 Responsibility and Leadership in Out-of-hospital Basic Level Emergency Tasks (5 cr)
Prerequisites Successfully completed courses (or equivalent competence):
- Basic Level Prehospital Emergency Care (including the studies/competences mentioned in the pre-requisites)
- Interprofessional Assessment of the Need for Patient Health and Social Service
- Clinical Decision Making and Patient Education in Non-urgent Emergency Situations
- Clinical Practicum in Basic Level Prehospital Emergency Care
Objectives 1) The student can work in the role of nurse 1 in basic level emergency care in accordance with the principles of working in pairs.
2) The student can act as a on-scene manager and make decisions in basic level emergency care.
3) The student identifies his/her competence and development targets.
Content - Basic level paramedic on-scene leadership and working as a member of the care team.
- Decision making in different situations as a basic level paramedic.
- Medical treatment, examination and treatment methods in basic level emergency care.
- Patient-safety in out-of-hospital basic level emergency care.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.

- is responsible for the examination of the patient and the assessment of the need for treatment
- makes decisions on the course of treatment of sick and injured patients with the support of a partner/team
- justifies his/her decisions on the basis of expert knowledge
- safely performs basic procedures,
- assess response to treatment and anticipate changes in the patient's condition
- respects workplace safety and apply non-technical skills in all situations
- manages situations in a goal-oriented manner with the support of a partner/team
- is responsible for recording patient examinations and treatment in basic level emergency care
- determines the urgency category/unit booking rate during transport
- reports on the patient's condition in accordance with the ISBAR model when requesting and handing over the patient for further care.

Further Information Guidelines for the recognition of prior learning (AHOT)

You can demonstrate your knowledge of the content of the course by means of a theory test if you have 1) at least a secondary vocational qualification in health (emergency care) or a diploma in rescue work, including studies in emergency care 2) at least 1 year of professional experience in out-of-hospital emergency care (basic level ambulance), which must have been gained within the last 3 years. The student agrees on the demonstration of competences with the course supervisor in the semester preceding the course (no HOT application to Peppi is required).

The student agrees on the demonstration of competence with the teacher responsible for the course in the semester preceding the course. No application for admission is made via HOT application in Peppi. AHOT performance will be assessed on a pass/fail scale.

A request for approval of previous studies is submitted to Peppi if the student has completed similar studies at a higher education institution.

If you wish to audit all first and second year paramedic studies, you must have at least one year of work experience in basic level paramedic (ambulance) within the last three years in addition to one of the above qualifications. This is done by completing an assessment of basic level paramedic skills, including a written portfolio of skills, a theory test and practical demonstrations in simulated paramedic situations.

The assessment must always be agreed in advance with the paramedic teacher.
