Description


ON00DV23 Nursing Care of Children and Adolescents I (5 cr)
Prerequisites The student has completed 140 credits of nursing studies and has passed the demonstration of competence in nursing.
Objectives The student is able to:

• master the key knowledge and skills required for the nurse's work, be able to make decisions, and work independently as a nurse;
• plan, implement and evaluate nursing work ethically and safely using reliable evidence-based information;
• work as a responsible nurse in the work unit, as a team leader, and as a coordinator of overall care for a client;
• work in interprofessional teams as an expert in nursing care; and
• evaluate own skills and develop his or her own professional acting in a goal-oriented manner.
Content • Nursing Care of Children and Adolescents in the different wards of the hospital
• Multiprofessional Team-working in Pediatric Nursing
• Medical treatment of children and adolescents
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods • Participation in contact teaching and completion of assignments
• Completion of the theory test and the children's medicine test
Execution methods Hybrid lectures, High-Fidelity Simulations, and Independent Learning

A student is assessed according to the Assessment Framework of the Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Oamk). Areas of assessment include 1. professional knowledge base and information seeking; 2. professional skill, activity, and target of activity; 3. group work skills and leadership; and 4. responsibility.

Further Information A student chooses advanced studies in nursing according to the personal career plan. It is worthwhile to find out in advance what educational and skills requirements employers have defined for nurses in different work communities.

Nursing Care of Children and Adolescents I can also be taken as an elective course. The prerequisites also apply to elective courses.

If the student intends to work in a paediatric unit, it is compulsory to study both Nursing Care of Children and Adolescents I and II.

Information on the selection process and enrolment for advanced studies will be provided in advance.
