General Information

Description

ON00DV33	Advanced Medical Nursing (5 cr)
Prerequisites	Level I and half of the Level II studies are completed without deficits or have completed 120 credits of nursing studies. Supporting medical studies have been completed or are being completed in parallel.
Objectives	The student is able to: • master the key knowledge and skills required for medical nursing, make decisions and work independently as a nurse; • to plan, implement and evaluate medical nursing work ethically and safely using reliable evidence-based information; • work as a part of the medical nursing team, as a responsible nurse in the work unit, and as a coordinator of overall care for a client; • work in a multidisciplinary team as an expert in nursing care; • evaluate personal skills and professional actions in a goal-oriented manner.
Content	• Comprehensive care and management of patients with internal diseases • Acute care treatments • Drug and fluid therapy • Palliative care • Comprehensive care coordination, teamwork, and decision-making

Evaluation Criteria	pass/fail Numerical Scale 0-5 A student is assessed according to the Assessment Framework of the Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Oamk). Areas of assessment include 1. professional knowledge base and information seeking; 2. professional skill, activity, and target of activity; 3. group work skills and leadership; and 4. responsibility. Further Information	Students choose their advanced studies in nursing according to their own career plans. It is worthwhile to find out in advance what educational and skills requirements employers have defined for nurses in different work communities. A course in medical nursing can also be chosen as an elective. The prerequisites also apply to elective courses.
