ON00DV27 Outpatient Care (5 cr)
Prerequisites Level I-III theories and clinical practicums are passed without deficits
Objectives The student is able to:

• master essential diagnostic examinations and procedures as a part of the patient's holistic care;
• form conclusions of somatic outpatients´ state and changes in health and adherence to self-care;
• plan and implement outpatients´ nursing care in different environments;
• identify the most frequent somatic patient groups and their illnesses;
• guide and support healthy lifestyles, commitment, and adherence;
• plan, implement, and evaluate patient education in multidisciplinary teams;
• act as an expert in different healthcare professional teams;
• apply evidence-based care into the development of nursing care;
• take part in developmental and innovational processes of nursing care;
• act according to the ethical principles of nursing care; and
• become aware of the career development possibilities of nursing.
Content • Nursing care in non-acute somatic outpatient care; outpatient clinics and home nursing
• Evidence-based nursing: prevention and care of national diseases, oncological nursing care, palliative -, hospice care and pain management at home, wound care
• Best practice guidelines
• Patient education models and processes
• Selfcare applications
• Empowering and activating nursing care, supporting patient´s adherence
• Health policies, practices, and guidelines
• Service structures, -processes and patient pathways
• Customership in healthcare services
• Health indicators of the population

A student is assessed according to the Assessment Framework of the Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Oamk).
