ON00DV07 | Acute and Critical Care in Nursing (5 cr) |
Prerequisites | Level I and Level II studies are ongoing or completed without deficits. |
Objectives | The student is able to: • plan, implement and evaluate patients, who are in need of immediate care; • describe the pathophysiology of major acute diseases and disorders, interpret disturbance and physiological and vital functions and render appropriate nursing interventions; • analyse and interpret data collected from different sources, and draw conclusions about the patient's condition; • carry out the duties of a nurse in an emergency situation; • act in different team member roles whilst performing basic or advanced resuscitation; • justify the medication and fluids used in immediate care; • recognize the needs of relatives and participate in guidance as a member of the team; and • apply evidence-based practice in patient care. |
Content | The main topics of this course are the following: 1. Pathophysiology of vital functions and resuscitation (1 ECTS); 2. Examination and treatment of acute patients, basic and advanced resuscitation (2 ECTS); and 3. Emotional aspects of critical situations in health care (1 ECTS) 4. High-Fidelity Simulation in a Multidisciplinary Team (1 ECTS) |

Accomplishment methods | Studies will be implemented in a hybrid format. Students are required to submit pre-tasks before High-Fidelity Simulation (HFS) trainings. |
Execution methods | Assessment of a critially-ill patient and advanced life-care support (2 ECTS) will be implemented in the following methods: Idependent learning, stimulating lectures, High-Fidelity Simulation (HFS) trainings, theoretical examination and skills check |
