OO00CR77 Methods of Research and Knowledge Production (10 cr)
Prerequisites N/A
Objectives 1.1 Basics of Information Methods
In this module, you will continue developing your thesis and literature review based on your previous work. You will search and critically appraise existing evidence-based literature. Justify the selection of the literature based on existing challenges of social and health care. You will later incorporate this information into your thesis plan (Chapter 2) as appropriate.

1.2 Qualitative Research Methods
In this module, you will produce content of the qualitative part of your thesis under the headings found in chapters 3 and 4: Justification of the work; the research question of the thesis; aims of the thesis, and implementation of the thesis.

1.3 Quantitative Research Methods
In this section, you will study the essential components of quantitative research methods. After this module, you will be able to understand the purpose of research and information methods (the design, implementation, and reporting) of a work field-specific thesis.
You will understand the concepts of how previous studies have used research and information methods. You will analyze evidence-based information that applies to your topic and methodology.
You will apply the principles of scientific communication methods to communicate your research and information-related findings using written and oral formats. You will apply research and information methods in the design of your thesis.
Content 1.1 Basics of Information Methods (3 ECTS)
1.2 Qualitative Research Methods (3.5 ECTS)
1.3 Quantitative Research Methods (3.5 ECTS)
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.

Evaluation Criteria satisfactory (1-2)
The student uses systematic reviews appropriately for the topic of their research and development work appropriately. The student selects suitable databases and keywords in their data searches. The student critically selects relevant and high-quality source material based on evidence from his/her search results related to the topic of their thesis and utilizes this in the knowledge base he/she has prepared. The student uses concepts consistently. The student uses the appropriate scientific research evaluation criteria to evaluate the chosen scientific research. The student selects and describes a suitable method for his/her thesis, but the consideration of suitability and the use of methodological literature is limited. The student has implemented a qualitative and quantitative analysis of data as an exercise. The student evaluates the reliability and ethics of research activities based on the research and methodological literature but is fragmented and have yet to completely adopt them into their own methodology. The student has developed a knowledge base that follows the principles of expert communication and scientific writing.
