KB00DM97 Orientation to Business Law (5 cr)

Objectives Student understands the importance of legal environment when planning and developing business. Student knows how marketing and consumer trade and sale of goods is regulated. Student can explain the main principles of general contract law. Student recognizes different types of contracts and can compare their applicability in real-life situations. Student understands the main legal principles of crediting and collaterals. Student identifies different kinds of company forms and is able to compare them. Student understands the basic rules of decision-making in companies and the responsibilities it contains. Student also knows the main principles of labor law and is able to explain the rights and responsibilities of employer and the employee.

Student can recognize the need for information, but the use of acceptable information sources is not consistent. Student knows some professional concepts and terminology, but the knowledge is fragmentary. Student recognizes some of the legal responsibilities and ethical principles and can act according to them. However, student does not evaluate their actions.

Student knows the main terminology and professional concepts and is able to use them correctly in most of the situations. Information sources chosen by the student are mostly reliable and student uses them in organized manner. Student can act according to the legal responsibilities and ethical principles of professional field but doesn’t evaluate them. Student can solve simple legal problems.

excellent (5)
Student uses professional terminology and concepts consistently. Student is able to seek and recognize reliable legal information sources. Student documents the use of information sources appropriately in written tasks Student recognizes the need for information in different situations and can plan and carry out an organized process for solving legal problems. Student can justify chosen actions using appropriate legal information. Student also plans and evaluates his/her actions in accordance with applicable legislation and ethical principles.
