KB00BP37 Supply Flows and Documentation in International Trade (12 cr)
Prerequisites Not applicable
Objectives The student becomes familiar with various flows and documentation in international trade starting with purchasing and procurement as well as supply chain management and logistics related matters. Moreover, the student understands the various arrangements and documentation needed for export/import operations, and recognizes the role of legal issues in international trade.

Areas of Competence:

Purchasing and Procurement: Student knows purchasing concepts and terminology, understands purchasing process, different purchasing categories and strategies, is familiar with purchasing and supplier selection related decisions. Student understands the scope of purchasing and the growing importance of strategic purchasing.

Supply Chain Management: Student is able to assess the critical role of logistics and supply chain management for the competitiveness of a company. Student has a command of logistics and supply chain management terminology and concepts, can describe logistics functions and analyze how to optimize supply chain activities

Foreign Trade Practice and Documents: Student is able to apply practical implementation of export/import activities. Student can analyze and develop an export/import process and its phases.

International Contract Law: The student knows the responsibilities of the contracting parties. The student is capable to recognize the challenges of the international business from the contract law's viewing point. The student also learns the relevance of the contracts in risk management. The student recognizes the different types of contracts and is capable to compare the applicability to different real life situations. The student is capable to recognize the rules of the choice of law and is also capable to prepare oneself for the problems of interpretation. In addition to the above the student is capable to name the main principles and the sources of the private international law.
Content Areas of Competence:

Purchasing and Procurement: Role of Purchasing, purchasing process, purchasing categories and strategies, purchasing as interdisciplinary activity. Supplier selection and management.

Supply Chain Management: Logistics framework and role, basic supply chain functions such as production and operations, inventory management, transportation, warehousing, supply chain management, current issues on supply chain management

Foreign Trade Practice and Documents: Arrangements for export/import operation modes. Business, banking, transportation, insurance and customs documentation. Terms of trade and transportation.

International Contract Law: The sources of the private international law, the choice of law, the arbitration proceedings, the main principles and the terms of the delivery contract, the Sale of Goods Act and the Convention on Contracts for the International Sales of Goods, Incoterms 2010, the retail contract, the contract of agency, (the harmful restraints on competition).
