KB00BP30 Creative Competences (10 cr)

Objectives The student is able to recognize and utilize his/her creative competencies and apply them in business - be it developing current practices or innovating new solutions.

Areas of Competence:

Innovation Methods: The student knows how to develop herself/himself in order to become a more innovative thinker. S/he knows how to use innovation tools that are relevant to different professional/business contexts. S/he is aware how to avoid the pitfalls and problems in innovation in organisations. The student knows how to apply creative writing and visualisation skills to crafting and presenting relevant stories of products, services and companies.

Design Thinking Projects: The student knows the basics of project work: conception and planning, execution and control (budget, resources, time), closing a project. The student is able to apply them to design thinking projects, where the starting points are the following: 1. learn from people (i.e. gain customer understanding), 2. find patterns (e.g. sequence a service), 3. create the design principles for your project (i.e. decide about design drivers), 4. make tangible (e.g use visualisation and prototypes), 5. iterate, i.e. use different types of tools to gain multiple viewpoints to the design task at hand.

Creative Business Strategy:
Students recognizes strategic challenges facing international and global companies. Students define the main characteristics of strategic management and are able to apply strategy management tools into practice.

English Language Lab:
Student will be able to communicate and perform in multicultural and international working environment and networks of the specific professional field. He/she will master the professional language skills required at work and will be able to follow and understand the latest publications in the specific professional field.
Content Areas of Competence:

Innovation Methods: The innovator’s toolkit: introduction to different business development and innovation tools, e.g. GOPP (Goal-Oriented Project Planning), BMC (Business Model Canvas). Innovating in practice: innovation tools will be put to practical use via different case studies.

Design Thinking Projects:
Introduction to project work and design thinking in theory and practice. Cases of business and service design to be undertaken by student groups.

Creative Business Strategy:
Key trends in international management. Strategic management principles and approaches. Introduction and implication of Strategy tools and models. Basic concepts of risk management.

English Language Lab:
Cultural differences in working life related to the specific professional field. Communicative situations in working life related to the specific professional field. Authentic study resources related to the specific professional field. Writing professional texts, language planning/proofreading, report writing (referencing), summaries, paraphrasing, writing process, storytelling, creative writing, style, presentations, pitching.
