KB00BP27 Finnish language for Foreign Degree Students (8 cr)
Prerequisites Basic Finnish Course 2 requirement:
Basic Finnish Course 1 or equivalent knowledge of Finnish (proficiency level A1).

Basic Finnish Course 3 requirement:
Basic Finnish Course 1 and Basic Finnish Course 2 or equivalent knowledge of Finnish (proficiency level A1).
Objectives Areas of Competence:

Basic Finnish Course 2:
The student can talk about everyday topics, make and understand short written messages and simple texts. The student learns to write simple sentences.

Basic Finnish Course 3:
The student learns to expand the vocabulary, increase the knowledge of grammatical structures and develop the skill of expressing oneself in the contexts of leisure time and working life. The student learns to write short texts.
Content Areas of Competence:

Basic Finnish Course 2:
Further elementary knowledge of the Finnish vocabulary, grammar and principles of pronunciation. Communication skills in ordinary everyday situations.

Basic Finnish Course 3:
Further elementary knowledge of the Finnish vocabulary and grammar.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.

Assessment Frameworks: Global Scale (The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages): A1

Foreign Degree Students in DIB are required (compulsory requirement) to study a minimum of 16 ECTS of Finnish language.

As a compulsory part of International Business Core Competences (in total 60 ECTS):
First year studies Autumn: Basic Finnish Course I, 4 ECTS
First year studies Spring: Basic Finnish Course II (4 ECTS) and Basic Finnish Course III (4 ECTS).

As a compulsory part of Innovative Business Competences (in total 90 ECTS):
Second year studies Autumn: Intermediate Finnish Course (4 ECTS).

Basic Finnish Course 1 is compulsory to Foreign Degree Students.
Basic Finnish Course 2 and Basic Finnish Course 3 are both compulsory to Foreign Degree Students.
Intermediate Finnish Course is compulsory to Foreign Degree Students.

If the student wishes to continue to study an additional language (in addition to Finnish), those ECTS and any other additional language course credits will be included in the DIB Free Choice Studies. Kindly note that the section of DIB Free Choice Studies is 15 ECTS in total. The choice of an additional language will be made on the basis of language assortment (language courses) made available for the particular Academic Year by Oulu UAS.
