OB00EP40 Practical Training in Biomedical Laboratory Science II (20 cr)
Prerequisites Prior to the course, the student must have completed the previous professional studies and the Practical Training in Biomedical Laboratory Science I.
Objectives Students will be able to take and handle different samples correctly and assess the quality of the samples.
The student will know the organisation, facilities and duties of the laboratory, as well as the names and the clinical significance of the laboratory tests carried out in the laboratory.
The student will be able to use the main information systems of the laboratory in a guided manner.
The student will be able to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired in the laboratory and to carry out studies in a supervised manner using the analyzers/methods available in the laboratory.
The student will actively participate in the work of the laboratory and respect the rules of the work community.
The student will be able to take into account patient safety, occupational safety and ergonomics in his/her work.
The student will be able to assess his/her own professional development and interpersonal skills during the practical training period.
Content The traineeship includes familiarisation with laboratories of different specialities and practice in the work of different laboratories. The main contents of the traineeship are: organisation and tasks, laboratory research process, client management, research methods, use of analysers, quality assurance, safety and ergonomics, interpersonal and work community skills. The range practical training may vary depending on the placements available and the student's own interests.

Evaluation Criteria

The student has taken and processed different samples taking into account pre-analytical factors.
The student has become familiar with the organisation, facilities and duties of the laboratory, the laboratory tests carried out in the laboratory and the clinical significance of the tests.
The student has been able to use the theoretical knowledge acquired in the laboratory and to cope with the tasks assigned in cooperation with the supervisors.
The student has taken into account patient and workplace safety, ergonomics and workplace rules.
The student's work shows a willingness to develop independence and to critically examine his/her own work.
