OB00DY43 Laboratory Sampling (5 cr)
Prerequisites Not applicable
Objectives The student becomes familiar with the ethical guidelines of the field. The student will know how the laboratory testing process starts and what the different steps of the laboratory testing process are. The student will be familiar with the nomenclature and system concepts of laboratory testing and the use of laboratory testing manuals. The student will understand the importance of pre-analytical factors in laboratory studies and results. The student will be able to identify the client in a two-step procedure. The student will be able to take laboratory samples aseptically using a variety of techniques and will be able to assess the quality of the laboratory samples taken. The student will know the basics of gynecological, urine, stool, throat and other microbiological sampling. The student will be able to handle, store and send laboratory specimens according to instructions. Students will be able to record and assess the quality of ECG and spirometry in adults. The student will be able to perform wound examination, perform quality control of wound testing equipment. The student will be able to ensure the reliability of laboratory tests by following national and international recommendations and standards. The student will be able to take ergonomics into account and ensure patient and occupational safety. The student will be familiar with the laboratory information system.
