OB00EE05 Microbiology I (4 cr)

Objectives The student can identify the cell structures, general characteristics and factors affecting the growth and reproduction of microbes.
The student is able to present basic information about disease-causing microbes and is familiar with the most common methods used in microbiology.
The student will be able to evaluate the clinical microbiology laboratory research process and know the principles of quality management.
The student knows the basic information about infectious diseases and their prevention.
The student will have a basic knowledge of the most common resistant bacteria, infections associated with treatment and their causative agents.
The student is familiar with communicable disease legislation, reporting practices and registration of communicable diseases
Content Main pathogenic bacteria, parasites, fungi and viruses, their characteristics, prevalence and pathogenicity
General principles of laboratory diagnostics for microbial identification and quality assessment of methods.
Infectious and communicable diseases.
Communicable Diseases Notification and Registration.
Common resistant bacteria, healthcare associated infections, their causes, prevention, and surveillance.
