Objectives | The student can prepare a high quality blood smear and identify normal blood cells under the microscope. The student will be able to perform basic hematological laboratory tests under supervision and understands the underlying theory. The student will be familiar with the operation, use and maintenance of a hematology analyser and coagulation analyser. |
Content | Preparation, MGG staining and evaluation of blood smear, microscopic examination of blood smear, counting cells using a hemocytometer, complete blood count with a hematological analyzer ,the erythrocyte sedimentation rate , common coagulation tests. |

pass/fail Approved: The student works responsibly in the group and is considerate of other students. The student is present at each training session and performs the tasks according to the work and safety instructions given. The student has made and stained blood smears and is able to assess the quality of the smears. The student is familiar with counting cells using a hemocytometer and the use of haematological analysers. |
