OB00EC76 Hematology I (3 cr)
Prerequisites No prior studies required.
Objectives The student knows the key concepts of haematology. The student will be able to describe the formation and function of blood cells. The student will know the common laboratory tests in haematology and their clinical relevance. The student will know the basic principles of the analytical methods of common haematological laboratory tests. The student will be able to describe the main principles of the haemostasis system and know the common laboratory tests of haemostatic system. The student understands the importance of quality in haematology.
Content The main concepts of haematology. Blood cells, their formation and functions. Basic haematological laboratory tests and their clinical significance. Haemostasis and laboratory tests to assess the function of the coagulation system.

The student will be able to describe the main principles of the hemostasis system and will be able to identify the laboratory tests used to study hemostasis function.
The student will recognise the importance of preanalytical factors in hematological laboratory tests.
