Objectives | The student has gained knowledge of micro-organisms, their cellular structures, general properties, growth and multiplication. The student has basic knowledge of pathogenic micro-organisms and antimicrobial drugs, and is able to prevent infections. The student has familiarized him/herself with the most common methods used in microbiology and has skills for being able to assess the laboratory practices in the examination of samples in the area of clinical microbiology. |
Content | The most important pathogenic bacteria, parasites, fungi and viruses, and their properties, frequency, pathogenicity and diagnostics. Quality assessment of the methods used in microbiology. Antimicrobial drugs, their mechanisms of action and resistance. Legislation on contagious diseases, compulsory notification of infectious diseases and registration. Hospital-acquired infections, their pathogens. Defence and follow-up. |
