Open University FAQ

I want to start studies in the Open University of Applied Sciences. How do I proceed?

You can either take individual courses or apply for a path studies, depending on your interest.
You can find a list of the courses in English here: Courses in English. (Note! You can change the language of the registration system to English from the top right corner of the page).

If your goal is to study a degree, path studies are a great option for you. Path studies mainly consist of first year's courses. After finishing your path studies you can apply for a degree student status on the basis of your completed studies. Lists of available study paths can be found on our webpage.

If I later get into a degree, do I have to re-do my courses I’ve completed in the Open University?

If you’re chosen as a degree student in Oamk, your credits can be compensated, and you don’t have to re-do the course. However, note that if you complete Open UAS courses in a different degree, you need agree the compensations in advance with the head of the degree programme.

If you continue your studies in a different university of applied sciences, it is they who determine if your courses are compensable or not.

The teaching schedule isn’t published in the web yet. When will I get information about the study times?

Unfortunately the exact schedules are often published later than the enrolment time ends. Once published, the schedules are available in Schedule Tool (Lukkarikone). You can find the instructions on how to use Schedule Tool on IT Service’s web pages. You should always enrol if you’re interested in a course – if the announced schedule doesn’t suit you, you’re free to cancel your enrolment without a fee before the course starts.

Do I get a certificate of the courses I’ve done?

After completing all of your studies at the Open UAS, you can order a digitally signed transcript of records via Peppi. Digitally signed documents are available immediately and you can print or forward them as electronic attachments. Documents ordered via Peppi are official documents which are valid to prove your studies to authorities. If you need a paper version, you can request the certificate by email: avoinamk@oulu.fi
