1P00ED12 Basics of Competence-Based Pedagogy (18 cr)
Prerequisites -
Objectives 1. You create a personal study plan (PSP) and maintain it during your exchange studies.
2. You reflect on your professional growth and development as a teacher throughout your exchange studies.
3. You can compare how legislation obliges teachers to work in higher education in Finland and the country where you are studying for your degree.
4. You know which documents guide teaching, guidance, and assessment.
5. You understand the various practices and approaches of guiding in higher education.
6. You understand the meaning of learning in higher education.
7. You understand how interaction affects learning.
8. You understand the importance of diversifying teaching and learning in higher education pedagogy.
9. You understand the meaning of assessment and feedback in higher education pedagogy. You plan lessons/sessions with a group of students.
10. You use digital solutions in teaching and guiding. (Digital Competence Badges 10 pcs)
11. You are familiar with the internationalisation strategies and practices of higher education.
12. You know the role of research and development in regional development work.
13. You will execute lessons/sessions according to the implementation plan prepared by you and your group.

Content According to the competence-based approach, the contents of a study unit will be build based on the competence goals.
Accomplishment methods: Active participation in the planning, implementation and assessment of the sessions during the term.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.

- You explore the practises and methods of guidance in professional or university education and consider their fulfilment in your own subject field.

- You consider how the learning process manifests in the learning and teaching of your own substance field.
- In your analysis, you use your experience, scientific literature and other reliable sources.
- You consider the role and goals of assessment and explore the meaning of assessment in learning.
- You examine the amendments, guidelines and practises in teacher?s work and in your own substance field.
- You examine the practises and execution of personalizing the studies in vocational and higher education.

Further Information Please notice that the modules of this course cannot be selected separately. In this course, you need to participate in small group work (3-5 students) to prepare material for a weekly 4-hour online session where you will be acting as a teacher/instructor. Therefore, participation in the planning and sessions is mandatory. The course starts with an introductory online session on the 7th of June, 2023, at noon Finnish time (CEST +2). In June, you will have a short personal online tutoring session. The regular sessions start on the 30th of August. Please notice that all the sessions apart from the August starting sessions (30th of August to 1st of September) are online.
